FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GLOBAL HEALING TO PROMOTE WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY
BERKELEY, Calif., - June 1, 2011 -- Global Healing, a leading non-profit organization devoted to providing modern medical equipment, training and supplies to the developing world, today announced a global campaign to recognize World Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2011. In partnership with its blood bank project sites in Armenia, Dominica, Georgia and Moldova, Global Healing will highlight activities and events occurring on World Blood Donor Day as it encourages people to volunteer and donate blood.
"It is our goal to significantly raise awareness at home and abroad about the importance of donating blood," said Luke Ifland, president, Global Healing, Berkeley, Calif. "A safe, reliable blood supply is both a source of national security and a life-saving treasure. Global Healing encourages everyone to support their communities by donating blood."
During a two-week period starting June 6, 2011, Global Healing will focus each day on the importance of blood donation and transfusion through Twitter and Facebook. The organization's website will showcase the story of how blood banks were established or modernized at a number of its project sites in developing countries. Additionally, information about each site's respective World Blood Donor Day activities will be listed.
The culmination of this campaign will occur on June 14, 2011. Local blood centers, including BloodSource and Blood Centers of the Pacific, will showcase blood donation activities. Subsequent days will highlight recaps from around the world as recognition is brought forth to all staff and blood centers involved as well as the volunteers who donated.
