Imagine.

You are 19 years old. You've just received your latest chemotherapy treatment. You return back to your room where your mother is cooking over a small, single gas burner she has brought from home. You bed is several decades old and you have only a few personal effects in your room. The walls are cracked, the windows are drafty, the floor tiles are cracked or missing, and there are no shower facilities in your room. You are exhausted from your treatments and this is your only sanctuary.

This is the everyday reality of Hovhannes (left) and many other patients at the Hematology Center of Armenia in Yerevan, but it doesn't have to be. Many more rooms need to be renovated to provide the simple assurance of rest after treatment.

The Hematology Center of Armenia will match your contribution. Total construction costs $3,000, but you can renovate a room and bathroom for $1,500. You will receive a commemorative plaque mounted outside the patient room you helped renovate. A contribution of $1,500 provides:

• Reconstruction, painting walls
• New electrical wiring
• New linoleum
• New windows, doors
• Replacement of bathroom tile, plumbing and electrical fixtures
